“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe

When Kaitlin enrolled in the HiSET program, she was uncertain about her academic standing. Having been out of school for many years, she questioned how well she would perform and often felt discouraged when helping her children with their homework. Confidence, more than ability, was her greatest barrier.
Through one-on-one conversations, Kaitlin and her liaison identified subjects where she felt most comfortable starting. Together, they developed a low-pressure plan that used pre-tests to highlight strengths and pinpoint areas for growth. Once the plan was in place, Kaitlin committed fully to the process.
Her progress was immediate. Kaitlin earned a score of 15 on her first exam and, later that day, passed a second subject with a score of 14. The results boosted her confidence and clarified her path forward, leaving only three subjects remaining.
With continued focus, Kaitlin maintained her momentum. Using targeted study packets and educational videos, she approached each exam prepared and confident. In just two and a half months, she successfully completed all HiSET requirements.
Kaitlin’s achievement reflects more than academic success. By finishing her HiSET, she regained confidence in her abilities and set a powerful example for her children. Her experience demonstrates that with structure, encouragement, and commitment, it is never too late to reach a meaningful goal.
