More Than Luck

Each March, St. Patrick’s Day fills the world with symbols of luck. Four-leaf clovers, rainbows, and pots of gold remind people to wish for good fortune. At GAIN, however, we see something deeper. Success is rarely luck. More often, it is preparation meeting opportunity.

Every participant who walks through our doors carries a story. Some arrive discouraged after months of job searching. Others are navigating personal challenges, career changes, or unfamiliar systems. Most simply hope for a chance to move forward.

What they discover is not luck, but support, structure, and encouragement. Participants strengthen résumés, practice interviews, explore career pathways, and develop strategies that position them for opportunity. Progress often comes one step at a time.

Like rainbows that appear after storms, many participants move through uncertainty before reaching stability. What may look like good fortune from the outside is usually the result of persistence, preparation, and the willingness to keep trying.

At the end of the rainbow is not a pot of gold. It is something far more meaningful. It is confidence restored, families supported, and individuals recognizing their own potential.

This month, we celebrate the participants who turned preparation into opportunity and discovered that success is rarely a matter of luck.

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” – Seneca.
