When Jose entered Focus 360, he was ready for a career change. After years in education, he was open to exploring new opportunities. Still, one question lingered in his mind. How would his teaching experience translate into a different field?

His facilitator encouraged him to look beyond job titles and focus on the skills he had developed throughout his career. Teaching had strengthened his communication, organization, mentorship, and problem-solving abilities. These were not limited to the classroom. They were valuable in many professional settings.
When an opportunity opened with JVS for a Case Worker position, the connection became clear. The role focused on supporting individuals receiving public assistance by providing encouragement, guidance, and referrals to programs like Focus 360.
Jose recognized something familiar in the work. Just as he had once helped students navigate challenges and growth, he could now support adults working toward stability and employment.
Encouraged by his facilitator, Jose submitted his application.
Preparation and perspective made the difference. By understanding how his experience translated to a new environment, Jose approached the opportunity with confidence.
He was hired as a GAIN Services Worker and is currently completing training in his new role.
Jose’s journey is an example of how skills developed in one season of life often prepare us for the next. Sometimes success comes not from luck, but from recognizing the value of experience already gained.
