One Step at a Time

When John enrolled in the Focus 360 program in Lancaster, he wasn’t just looking for a job—he was seeking a new direction. After working as a delivery driver in Los Angeles, personal challenges led him to relocate, leaving him unsure of how to begin again.

The road forward wasn’t easy. Early on, John faced significant obstacles that nearly led him to withdraw from the program. He struggled with technology and had limited computer skills. But rather than give up, John chose courage. He opened up to his facilitator, who responded with patience and support. Together, they tackled tools like Adobe and Google Drive step by step.

Each small success gave John a reason to keep going. Completing assignments on his own, applying for jobs, and learning new skills gave him the confidence he hadn’t felt in years. He pressed forward and completed Focus 360, a major milestone that reignited his hope.

Motivated to do more, John requested a referral to the Transitional Subsidized Employment (TSE) program. Though he was grateful to work part-time as an IHSS provider for a family member, he knew his family needed more stability. With a growth mindset and stronger skillset, John set his sights on full-time employment.

His dedication paid off. John was recently hired as a Customer Service Associate at the Lancaster Goodwill site. For John, this opportunity is a fresh start and a place where he can grow.
